Corso Vittorio Emanuele is a very long main street with tall palm trees at the end of which is the Garibaldi Garden, a green oasis just right for a rest after you've finished walking the boulevard.

Public transport is a quick option to get from the airport to the city center. The fare for a trip is 1 euro, and the ticket valid for a whole day is 2.5 euro. This route takes approx. 50 minutes, to get to the center you have to get off at Via Nicolo Piccinni station.

The Old Port and Lungo Mare

In the old port you will meet the authentic Bari, here where the fishing boats return loaded with the fresh catch of fish and seafood. The cliff measures no less than 5 km, it is beautifully landscaped with lanterns and benches from place to place. It is relaxing and romantic to cross it from one end to the other while looking at the blue sea.

Basilica of Saint Nicholas

Known for housing the relics of Saint Nicholas, Bari is a great destination for anyone looking to visit churches and discover Italian architecture. The Basilica of St. Nicholas in Bari is an important place of pilgrimage, especially on December 6, when St. Nicholas is celebrated. Inside a crypt, in the altar are kept the relics of the Saint who are said to have miraculous powers.

Saint Nicholas earned his reputation as the patron saint of merchants, sailors, children and students, but also of thieves who regret their deeds. However, his name has endured the most in history as Santa Claus, or the one who on the night of December 5th to 6th comes to put presents in the boxes of children who have been good. Great joy that we managed to reach this special place.

Svevo Castle

Svevo Castle in Bari is a massive fortress from the XIIIth, which currently houses a museum. Located on the edge of the old city, near the port and the Cathedral of St. Sabino, due to its grandeur it is one of the most important and well-known monuments of the city. Over time, the castle was transformed into a luxury fortified residence, a barracks, but also a meeting place for writers and artists. It is one of the entrance gates to the old city. In the evening the fort is lit up, waiting for you to walk around and admire it.

Bari Vechia or Old Town

We wandered the labyrinthine streets of Bari Vecchia, the historic heart of the city. We discovered hidden markets, charming cafes and local artisans selling their wares on the street. It is a labyrinth of winding alleys, squares and paved streets.

Food in Bari

Try the pizza, even more...with a thin crust, on the hearth, prosciutto, mozzarella, with tomato sauce, rocket, zucchini, sliced eggplant. Pasta, focaccia, Peroni beer, local wine, seafood, coffee, prosecco, croissants are all must-try. You can't go wrong with a portion of spaghetti with pesto genovese. At Bari Napoli you have two menu pages with pasta dishes and two more pages with pizza assortments.

Orecchiete are a type of pasta specific to Puglia, which get their name from their resemblance to a small ear. Also try the troffiete, they are small, thin pastas that come in some places with a pink sauce (certainly tomatoes, cream and parmesan) and shrimp.

Panzerotti a kind of calzone filled with tomatoes and mozzarella, but a little smaller. The major difference between the two, however, is rather the consistency of the dough and the fact that panzerotti is fried, not baked. Focaccia can be the main course or just a snack, but you will find it in all the patisseries in the city. In Bari, a typical fast food meal costs: 8.00 EUR for a McMeal at McDonalds or BurgerKing (or a similar combo meal) and 2.5 EUR for a cheese hamburger. For coffee lovers: cappuccino coffee 1.5 EUR and espresso 1 EUR. A meal at a cheap restaurant costs 15 euros per person. Soft drinks, 1.6 euros. Coffee, 1.5 euros.

Shopping in Bari

Via Sparano is the main commercial artery in Bari where you will find from the smallest local shops to the luxurious international boutiques. Give yourself as much time as you want walking around the area, discovering the products specific to the area. This being the ideal place to find the souvenirs you want. We want to return to Bari because we haven't seen everything, there would be a lot more to see and exploit.
