Botox and hyaluronic acid treatments - essential questions and answers from the specialist doctor

Aesthetic procedures produce physical, but also psychological effects, by increasing self-esteem and confidence in one's own person.

If you are considering injecting botox or hyaluronic acid to improve your appearance, it is recommended that you have some information about what these aesthetic procedures represent, what results you can expect and what are the contraindications of the treatments.

Botox versus hyaluronic acid – what is each used for?

  • Botulinum toxin, better known as botox, is used to prevent the formation or development of expression wrinkles. It is mainly used in the area of the forehead and eyes, as well as for the correction of frown lines.
  • Hyaluronic acid fillers are also used to correct wrinkles, especially wrinkles in the lower third of the face. Hyaluronic acid is often chosen to augment areas that have lost volume, such as cheeks or lips. Hyaluronic acid is also used to correct the nose, chin and jaw line.

What should I choose - injections with botulinum toxin or fillers with hyaluronic acid?

The doctor informs the patient about the treatment options and makes recommendations, and based on the information received, the patient makes the final decision, which he considers to be advantageous to him.

How do I prepare for treatment?

Patients do not require special preparation before injectable treatments. The procedures are minimally invasive, and during the consultation, the doctor will provide all the necessary details about injections with botulinum toxin, respectively hyaluronic acid.

Does botox injection/ hyaluronic acid treatment hurt?

Botox and hyaluronic acid treatments are almost painless and therefore do not require anesthesia. An exception is the lip area, where a topical anesthetic is applied in the form of a cream. Patients who are afraid of needles may experience a certain degree of discomfort, therefore it is important that during the consultation you mention to the doctor any aspect you consider to be relevant.

What are the contraindications for aesthetic procedures with botox and hyaluronic acid

Botulinum toxin injections are contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and are not applied to patients with inflammatory skin diseases, such as - eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis.

Are the results visible immediately after the end of the aesthetic procedures?

The results following Botox treatment are visible after about 3 days after the injection of the substance, but the final result is visible 7-10 days after the treatment and lasts approx. 3-4 months, after this interval it is recommended to resume the treatment to maintain the appearance.

The results of the filler (with hyaluronic acid) can be seen immediately after the injection, but even in this case it takes about a week to see the final result. The duration of the result is approx. 6-8 months.

A new procedure will be at least as successful as the previous one, whether we are talking about botox injections or hyaluronic acid fillers.

What am I not allowed to do after Botox or hyaluronic acid procedures?

After botulinum toxin injections, it is important to avoid sauna or yoga activities for the first 3 days. The reason why such activities are to be avoided in the first 3 days after the injection lies in the fact that botox can be eliminated through the skin or depending on the position of the head, it migrates to the surrounding areas and affects other muscles than the targeted ones.

Aesthetic surgery is a branch of plastic surgery and includes both surgical and non-surgical procedures, such as botulinum toxin injections or hyaluronic acid fillers. Call on doctors specializing in the application of these treatments and talk to your doctor about the expectations you have regarding the results obtained, the costs of the interventions, the risks and what to expect in the period after aesthetic interventions.
